Meet Ashley

From Newmarket, ON, Ashley began Piano Lessons around 7 or 8 years-old. By the age of 13, Ashley had completed  her Grade 1 Piano Exam through the Royal Conservatory of Music. Ashley continued to pass several more Piano Exams through the RCM. Determined to pass the Grade 8 Piano Exam before finishing High School, Ashley took it upon herself to learn & practice the Grade (with the help of some family members), despite not having a Piano Teacher that year.

Throughout High School, Ashley was always involved in different Music Courses; from Music Class to Band, Choir, Vocal Class, Keyboarding and Musical Theater. It was no surprise when Ashley's Post-Secondary Education was for Music.

Ashley attended the School of Music at Cambrian College (Diploma in Music Performance) where she minored in Voice,  majored in Piano and studied Piano with Dr. Charlene Biggs. During her third year, Ashley was nominated for Piano for the programs Senior Awards ceremony. She also performed a Graduation Recital and started teaching. After graduating from Cambrian College, Ashley was accepted into Laurentian's University Music Program (BA in Arts - Music, Honours) where she continued to study with Dr. Charlene Biggs.  While at Laurentian, Ashley was selected to perform in a Masterclass and performed another Graduation Recital.

Ashley moved to New Liskeard in 2012 and began teaching music lessons full time. In the spring of 2018, Ashley was entrusted by former local music teacher Melanie Ducharme to take over and finish her teaching year by teaching her Piano and Voice students.

Ashley's students have gone onto win awards from the Temiskaming Festival of Music and have achieved high marks on their Royal Conservatory Piano Exams. She has taught 4-year-olds to adults and from beginner to Grade 8 Piano.

Ashley was in the 2013 Small Pond Production of The Wizard of Oz. She sang and later soloed with the Cat Scan Choir. Ashley also sang with The Sunday Night Singers and was the accompanist for a term for the Community Choir. Ashley wrote and recorded a Piano part for former Temiskaming Shores resident, Lucas Jaques' CD. Ashley joined the Temiskaming Festival of Music committee in 2018.

Ashley comes from a musical family and it began with her beloved Baba (Grandma), Reta Goodman Faibish.

Reta Faibish was an award winning Pianist. She spent a summer attending the prestigious Juliard School in New York and she used to play the Piano on the CBC Radio. She would compete against Glenn Gould in Music Competitions and once beat him in the Beethoven category. Reta Faibish was also a teacher and taught Piano Lessons for 70 years.

It's A Family Thing

"You're probably one of the first people I want to tell this to. I've changed my route throughout school of what I'm studying and I'd thought you would be happy to hear that I got a Piano Teaching job (in Guelph) teaching group lessons and individual lessons. Thanks to you, I excelled in my Piano and I really wanted to thank you! Because without you as my teacher, I don't think I could have done this!" - 2017 text from Jessica A. (former Piano student)
